Solidarity

version en castellano

Maranya festival with its roots in Boodaville collaborated with a group of young international people in Poble Sec to support their solidarity project. The dream was to bring young people together to consolidate our shared values and promote understanding and care of good old Mother Nature. It was thanks to the dedicated people, creative ideas and EU funding that brought two vibrant and diverse events to the table and spread the word, bringing more people into the action and then to the festival which was held in May this year.

Fiesta Boodaville was the initial event for the Poble Sec Solidarity project, hosted in the local Hort de la Font Trobada. A beautiful event for the community to meet and share good vegan food and enjoy the spring sunshine.

We attracted a brilliant crowd, who danced to CARPA KOI and No:me’s beats and learned to fold origami birds from recycled paper. This contributed to the ‘Migration’ installation of 1000 cranes in the tunnel connecting the campsite and stage area to the bioescuela at Maranya Festival.

The second event of the solidarity project: ‘Dance for the Ocean’ celebrated our love for the world’s oceans and was designed to raise awareness and encourage action. We started with the unfortunately effortless collection of plastic bottles and with the help of volunteers we created a visual, immersive display of the waste in our oceans.

¡Gracias a todos los que vinieron a Freedonia el mes pasado y bailaron por una buena causa! 😁 Aquí hay un pequeña película que lo captura todo.🐟 🦑 🐬Thank you to everyone who came down to Freedonia last month and danced for a good cause! 😁 Here's a little after movie capturing it all.

The plastic jellyfish made for an interactive dance floor and the lights brought everything to life in our underwater utopia, complete with smoke machine and lasers (thank you, Freedonia). You can see the video, here.

We couldn’t have danced so hard for the ocean without the sound(waves) brought to us by the Inner Circles collective – featuring fresh and energised sets from their own DJs: Noubaba, Kilig and Bandza. We even helped to grow our network at this event, giving handmade and hand painted (plantable) seed cards to promote the Maranya Festival.

Both of these events and recycling workshops were organised by the people in the Poble Sec barrio and increased the connections and conversations surrounding the climate crisis and environmental action. Bringing folk from Poble Sec, Barcelona and a wonderfully international crowd to the natural space in Fuentespalda for the Maranya Festival 2019.

The weekend of May 24th – 26th 2019 was an ecological experience for us to learn, have fun and get entangled in nature and we hope that these values outlasted the weekend and impacted those who joined us positively. We overcame challenges, broke down barriers and straight up fixed the crap out of things that didn’t go to plan. Maranya was a success thanks to everyone that came, and anyone who helped us along the way.

You can see some arial festival footage from the regional news on TV here!

Stay tuned for our official aftermovie!

LOVE,

The Maranya Team
