We are surrounded by signs of a blossoming Spring, and last weekend we hosted a Boodaville Party in the Huerto de La Font Trobado in Poble Sec, our first Solidarity Event of the year which brought families, friends and some pretty cute dogs together in the warm (almost) Spring sunshine. Tucked away in a little community allotment on the edge of Poble Sec and Montjuic, the locals tended to their vegetable patches and continued with their leisurely Sunday afternoon business whilst the Maranya team set up the workshop, food, sound system and stage area for the day.
It wasn’t long before people found this urban oasis and began arriving. Our first workshop was a recycling-origami fusion. Using old newspaper, magazines and calendars our goal was to fold 1000 paper cranes inspired by the Japanese tradition which grants a wish. The workshop attracted children and adults throughout the day to come and fold one or more birds to contribute to the goal of 1000 paper cranes for solidarity. Many attendees wrote their wishes or intentions on the wings of the birds – look for the origami flock in the trees at Maranya Festival this May!
The afternoon unfolded with an upbeat and spunky live performance from Giacomo Maria AKA CARPA KOI who brought a crowd and even a few more by-passers who stumbled across the event. Accompanied by a talented entourage on keys and drums (and even letting one of the crowd join in and jam with them!), they brought an hour of rock/folk music to the huerto. No:Me kept us dancing with some hypnotic beats to close the event as the sun set behind Montjuic. The location and crowd set the scene for Maranya, bringing old and new friends together to enjoy the relaxed atmosphere, music and homemade hummus (muy rico, Claudia) and kombucha. After the live music, we turned our attention to the raffle – and prizes! – and drew the raffle prize winners. The overall fundraising campaign raised a massive 631€ for Boodaville Association, which holds the roots for Maranya festival.
A huge thank you to all who were a part of Sunday! Come and dance with us at our next event; Maranya with Inner Circles at Freedonia April 25th.
